For nearly 20 years, Ron Sirak was Senior Writer for Golf Digest and Executive Editor of Golf World, both Conde Nast publications. Prior to joining the magazines in 1998, he worked for The Associated Press for 18 years, the first seven as a supervising news editor before becoming Deputy Sports Editor and then golf writer. Born in New Castle, Pa., his first job in journalism was with the weekly Lancaster (Pa.) Independent Press while a student at Franklin & Marshall College, where he was a member of the Class of 1972.
His first job in golf was filling the pop cooler at Castle Hills Golf Course in New Castle when he was 12 years old. Sirak is the author of three books with acclaimed golf instructors Pia Nilsson and Lynn Marriott: “Every Shot Must Have a Purpose”; “The Game Before the Game” and “Play Your Best Golf Now.”
He is a past President of the Golf Writers Association of America, an organization from which he has won numerous writing awards, and a past President of the Metropolitan Golf Writers Association.
Sirak was the 2015 recipient of the PGA of America Lifetime Achievement in Journalism Award, the 2015 Media Excellence Award from the LPGA and the 2015 Lincoln Werden Journalism Award from the Metropolitan Golf Writers Association. He has worked more than 150 major golf championships and is considered to be the only writer to cover all the men’s and women’s major championships in the same year, a feat he has accomplished three times. He lives in Wellfleet, Mass., on Cape Cod and is a member of Chequessett Yacht & Country Club. His grandson Declan attended his first Masters when he was 8 months old.
